Make consistency easier before you make training harder

A training plan has to survive normal life: work, travel and changes in energy. The following planning exercise is a starting point you can adapt with your coach.

Give the session an actual place

Choose a specific day, time and location. Put it in your calendar and decide what needs to happen beforehand, such as packing your clothes or leaving work on time.

Start with a manageable commitment

NIDDK recommends making a plan, setting goals and anticipating barriers when changing health habits. Begin with a commitment you can repeat, rather than trying to change your whole routine at once.

Plan for disruption

Write down a realistic alternative for days when your usual routine changes. This is a planning prompt, not permission to ignore booking terms: discuss timetable changes with your coach in advance.

Use tracking as feedback

Note what you completed and what got in the way. At a review, use that information to adjust the plan. A missed session is useful information about the system you are trying to build.
